ECI’s construction contract for the project when completed exceeded $10,800,000.00 and over 77,000 man hours were expended on the project. The project was completed in June of 2009 on time and within budget.

ECl’s pre-construction team utilized building information modeling (BIM) CAD drawings to lay out the entire electrical project, a crucial step for overall quality control. ECl built many project components in its FAB Shop, saving valuable time and ensuring the highest quality.

Throughout the six-month project, ECI worked closely with designers from Cabela’s to complete the electrical work and achieve the desired elements inside and outside of the hunting lodge-styled 185,000 square foot retail complex. With only six months to complete this comprehensive project, ECI used an expert team of up to 36 electricians working two shifts, performing an estimated 27,500 man hours.

After the structure was completed, ECI began the electrical upgrades including a new double ended 480-volt switchboard, several distribution panels, new medium voltage feeders and switches, 8 Automatic Transfer Switches, new Generator Feeders with M.I. Cable and 2 new risers and panels in the existing 13 story building with new distribution panels on each floor for future expansion. The Bliss Building at Hartford Hospital has a portion of the emergency room, cafeteria, several operating rooms, many radiology suites, CT scan rooms, patient rooms, maternity as well as the Life Star hanger.
Most of the existing electrical feeders were shut down and re-routed through the new electrical infrastructure installed in the new underground rooms. ECI accomplished this with close coordination with the Hartford Hospital engineering staff, nursing, radiology and operating rooms mostly during night time and weekends to minimize the impact of the power disruption. ECI brought in extra personnel to assure that the 34 power shutdowns were completed within the timeframe given to the hospital staff.

Construction on the West Street site began in 2010 after the State Bond Commission in April approved funding.
The design of the building includes sophisticated safety and security features, such as multiple air-handling systems and biocontainment areas. The property is accessed through a gated entrance and there is 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week security.
Site excavation work was done with painstaking care after additional dinosaur tracks, similar to, and even older than those at the nearby state park, were found. Some of those fossils are permanently exhibited on the property.
