ECI worked on this project for over a year and acted as the general contractor for this highly complex electrical service upgrade project for the Bliss Building at Hartford Hospital. Work included two new underground electrical rooms adjacent to an existing substation and required supervision of services including excavation, concrete work, waterproofing, mechanical and HVAC contractors, as well as other finishing trades.

After the structure was completed, ECI began the electrical upgrades including a new double ended 480-volt switchboard, several distribution panels, new medium voltage feeders and switches, 8 Automatic Transfer Switches, new Generator Feeders with M.I. Cable and 2 new risers and panels in the existing 13 story building with new distribution panels on each floor for future expansion. The Bliss Building at Hartford Hospital has a portion of the emergency room, cafeteria, several operating rooms, many radiology suites, CT scan rooms, patient rooms, maternity as well as the Life Star hanger.

Most of the existing electrical feeders were shut down and re-routed through the new electrical infrastructure installed in the new underground rooms. ECI accomplished this with close coordination with the Hartford Hospital engineering staff, nursing, radiology and operating rooms mostly during night time and weekends to minimize the impact of the power disruption. ECI brought in extra personnel to assure that the 34 power shutdowns were completed within the timeframe given to the hospital staff.
