US-based office product supplier Staples has joined forces with SunEdison to install a 685kW solar power facility at Staples’ global headquarters in Framingham, Massachusetts.

The project is the 37th in Staples’ solar portfolio and brings the company a total of 14MW across its national operations.

The facility is equipped with more than 2,440 SunEdison Silvantis solar modules.

Now complete, the array is expected to generate around 850,000kWh annually which is enough to power Staples’ 650,000 square-foot headquarters office building, the company said.

Mark Buckley, Staples’ vice president of environmental affairs said: “This solar power system at our global headquarters is a demonstration of Staples’ dedication to sustainability across our business. Our partnership for solar energy with SunEdison provides cost-effective power and helps Staples meet its environmental goals.”

Staples will purchase the energy generated from the system under a power purchase agreement with SunEdison.

Attila Toth, SunEdison’s general manager of distributed generation said: “Staples has been a long-standing partner of SunEdison. We applaud the management team for their strong commitment to environmental sustainability.”
